Phone Numbers
Every AI assistant needs a phone number to be reachable. Nova offers three ways to set up a number:
Nova number
Buy a number directly in Nova — the fastest way.
Use existing number
Use your existing number via call forwarding or SIP trunk.
Call forwarding
Forward your existing number to a Nova number.
Which option is the right one?

| You want to keep your existing number | Call forwarding to a Nova number |
| You want to use the number only for the bot | Buy a Nova number |
| You want to take some calls yourself and route others to the bot | Call forwarding with business-hours rules |
Assigning a number to an assistant
- Go to Phone Numbers in the sidebar
- Click the desired number
- Under Assistant, choose the assistant that should serve this number
- Click Save
Each number can only be assigned to one assistant. However, an assistant can have multiple numbers.
Releasing a number
When you no longer need a number:
- Go to Phone Numbers
- Click the number
- Click Release number

Released Nova numbers cannot be restored. After release, the number is returned to the pool.
